Week 11- Corpus
I was able to go to a real city this week!! Somewhere with no dirt roads and no wild dogs. It was actually so strange. I think I almost forgot about the rest of the people in life and what they do. We had exchanges again and I was able to go to Corpus Christi, a coastal city. Sister Moffat and I had lots of cool people to meet. We also had a lesson with a man who just got baptized the following Saturday. It was so cool to see this guy want to learn about the gospel and has been studying the BoM and in his short 3 weeks of being introduced to the gospel, he has read all of 1 and 2 Nephi. On a super spiritual note, we said a prayer with a guy we just met who had been skateboarding. He told us that the pray brought him so much joy and that this was the highlight of his entire week. He also wanted to come to church and everything! It made me so happy to see our quick few minutes with him brighten up everything.
It was also conferencia de estaca. This was also in Corpus but we had to get a ride with a member because we weren't allowed to drive. (No, I don't know why). It worked out great and the sister who drove us had tons of cool stories to share because she was in the Air Force and had lived in both Germany and South Korea. Stake Conference was super cool because they got a new conferencia presidente, the McAllen Presidente del Templo, and the presidente del misión was there. The talks were amazing and the spirit was so strong! The unfortunate thing was that none of our friends made it to stake conference because it was an hour drive away and a lot of these people can't find ride to the chapel 15 minutes away from their house in Alice.
There was also a super fun wedding on Wednesday. Us sisters were able to help set it up with flowers and food and then that evening we got to attend a marriage in Español. There was soooo much food. And apparently, thus was just the ceremony and a little luncheon and on Saturday she had a huge dance wedding party thing with more food and more people. This mujer did it all. She cooked like 15 dishes with multiple cakes, mole, frijoles, arroz, piña colada, soda, the whole shebang.
Spiritual thought: D&C 68:6 "Wherefore, be of good cheer, and do not fear, for I the Lord am with you, and will stand by you; and ye shall bear record of me, even Jesus Christ, that I am the Son of the living God, that I was, that I am, and that I am to come."
(I also made soft pretzels and cream cheese frosting today. Shoutout to Philadelphia!)
