Semana 27- Hurricane Beryl
You might have been hearing rumors of hurricane season in the Yucatan and gulf of Mexico area. There was/is in fact hurricane Beryl, pero it shifted up to the houstan area so the whole mission ended up being safe but they did evacuate the Corpus zone just in case. And we couldn't go proselytizing Sunday evening. We only had some rain and thunder hear, and we are 100% all okay. It just seemed like it was going to be bad.
This week though has been fantastic! We met some really cool people who are progressing towards baptism and one is a friend of 4 with the most elect 12 year old little girl. She really wants to be baptized and told us to help her get her mom baptized to! She came to church and really loved it and has been watching cute little videos and labeled us in her phone as the sisters from the father up above. We are working to help the mom and her brother get baptized but the mom was super sick and couldnt come to church and we scrambled to find just the one daughter a ride to church. We'll get them next time. We also met a lady and when we asked her why God sent us to her door she broke down into tears and told us all these things and how she really just wants to have peace and to not feel lonely. All week she talked about how she tells everybody about us and feels like we are a sign and she has been happier since talking with us. We also have this really cool part member family and are all pretty recent. We are helping one of the older sons get baptized because he has been at college but we might have to give him over to the houstan elders to baptized him depending on when he leaves. (He has literally done all the requirements all he needs is to pick a day and do a baptismal interview).
The 4th was really weird especially because we are basically in north Mexico and literally nobody celebrated the holiday. We had to be back by 7 just in case of fireworks and drunk people but there were maybe like 3 fireworks super late and that was it. Also, nobody decorates for the 4th here, they just leave up their Christmas decorations year round. We did have extra time so we made a cookie sheet flag and watched the Chosen.
We also worked on a video with our recent convert friend Sammy who is the cutest and already preparing to serve a mission. (She only has 8 more months to go before she can go through the temple!!) We made a video about her testimony and how going to church and being baptized blessed her life so now we are just working on editing it all together and putting it on Facebook. Besides that, we have found some really cool people and are hoping to continue to see all the milagros that have been happening on Mercedes!
